Swanage and the Isle of Purbeck are located in the heart of the Jurassic Coast which is part of the Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site.

The town itself has a Victorian pier which is popular with walkers, fishermen and divers. There is also a working steam railway which runs from the centre of the town to the historic village of Corfe Castle with its spectacular ruins.

Durlston Country Park provides excellent walks with views of the coastline and the old quarry workings, now a haven for a diverse array of wildlife. Dolphins are also regularly seen from the point.

Studland is another popular location to visit, with four miles of sand dunes and a nature reserve. Horseriding, mountain biking, windsurfing, surfing, diving, climbing, are just some of the activities available in the area.
